Habitat of bacteria :
Bacteria are found everywhere in water, land, and space. They are found in the deepest layers of the ocean and soil and on the highest mountain peaks. They survive at temperatures as low as -170°C as well as at high temperatures of 75°-80°C. They can survive in an oxygen-free environment. Some of the habitats of bacteria are mentioned below-
1. Living in the air: Some species of Clostridium, Bacillus subtilis, Sarcina lutea, etc.
2. Living in water: Vibrio coma, Salmonella typhi, Clostridium tetani, etc.
3. Living in the soil: Azotobacter, Nitrobacter, Nitrosomonas, etc.
4. Living in the roots of legume plants: Rhizobium.
5. Found in milk: Lactobacillus, Streptococcus lactis, Escherichia coli, etc.
6. Found in fish, meat and eggs: Various species of Pseudomonas and Proteus.
7. Plant pathogens: Xanthomonas oryzae, Xanthomonas citri, etc.
8. Human pathogens: Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella typhosa, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, etc.
